Privacy Policy
Last updated: 26 July 2026
HistoWeave (“this site”) is operated by SingleOrigin. This policy explains what information the site collects and how it is handled. There are no user accounts, and simply browsing the site requires no personally identifying information.
1. Information we collect
Analytics data: pages viewed, time spent, referring source, browser and device type, approximate region, and the display language you are using. This is collected through cookies and only if you consent, as described below.
Settings stored in your browser: your consent choice and your display language. These two values are kept in your browser's localStorage rather than in cookies, and are never sent to our servers — although, if you consent, the display language is included in the analytics data above.
Contact enquiries: your name, email address, subject and message, if you write to us through the form.
Server records: our hosting provider records access logs containing IP addresses and request details. To prevent repeated automated submissions, the sender's IP address is also briefly consulted when the contact form is used.
2. How we use it
We use this information only to improve the content and functionality of the site, to reply to enquiries, to prevent abusive automated submissions, and to respond where required by law.
We do not sell this information to third parties.
3. Cookies and consent
This site uses Google Tag Manager for analytics. On your first visit you are asked for consent, and no analytics cookies are written until you give it.
If you decline, or dismiss the banner without choosing, no analytics cookies are used. Nothing about how the site works changes either way.
To change your choice, clear this site's stored data in your browser; the request will then appear again on your next visit.
4. Data shared with external services
This site relies on the following external services. By their nature, your IP address and browser information are sent to each of them.
Google (Tag Manager and Analytics): for analytics. Loaded only if you have consented.
Wikimedia Commons: images of events and figures are loaded directly from the Wikimedia Foundation's servers. Displaying them sends your IP address and browser information to the Foundation. This happens as a consequence of showing the images and is independent of your analytics consent.
Vercel (hosting) and Turso (database): to serve the site and its historical data.
Resend (email delivery): to deliver contact form messages to the operator.
5. Retention
Contact enquiries are not stored in a database; they remain only in the operator's email inbox and are deleted once there is no further need to keep them.
Analytics cookies expire according to Google Analytics' defaults.
The IP address consulted to limit repeated submissions is discarded after a short period and is never stored permanently.
6. International transfers
Our hosting, database and email delivery are all provided by companies in the United States, so the information above is processed on servers there. This means data is transferred outside the European Economic Area and outside Japan.
7. Your rights
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, the GDPR gives you the right to request access to your personal data, and to have it corrected or erased, to restrict its processing, and to object to processing.
Please send any such request through the contact form. We will verify your identity before acting on it.
8. Changes to this policy
We may revise this policy as the law changes or as features are added to the site. When we do, we will update the date shown at the top of this page.
